The Henry Lee Graves Collection was acquired by gift in July 1960 from his great-granddaughter Louise Graves. Although limited in scope, this collection provides important information about the life of Henry Lee Graves. The materials include personal correspondence, a financial ledger, an epitaph of Graves' life, and an autograph album comprised by Henry Lee's daughter Ophelia. The chronology of the collection ranges from 1841 to 1881.

Henry Lee Graves was born in Yanceyville, North Carolina on 1813 February 22. He married Rebecca Williams Graves on 1836 February 3. Rebecca, who lived in Caswell County, North Carolina, was Henry Lee's first cousin once-removed. Henry Lee and Rebecca had four daughters (Mary Anna, Bettie Williams, Ophelia Florine, and Willie Ruby) as well as two sons (Charles Henry and Henry Lee). Rebecca passed away in 1865.
